How to stop overthinking?

Diving into endless thoughts? Overthinking can kill your mental peace.

It invites a cyclone of thoughts making your mind cluttered. And then you don’t just dive, but drown and sink so deep that it becomes impossible for you to float back.

It is possible to channelize your mind. You can control overthinking by following some simple things. But that needs some willingness and ability to work towards it.

You might be giving importance to things that might not need the amount of attention you are putting. Or there could be instances where something bad is going to happen or there are chances that there is a misfortune coming on the way.

But what we need to understand here is that,

No amount of overthinking is going to change what is going to happen.

Choose mental health and say goodbye to overthinking. You need to realize that YOU are important, yes it’s you who should be the priority and nothing should come before your mental peace and health. Only then you could prioritize the psychological factors in your life that are shaping the way you feed, think, feel and react.

These days many people are facing this issue of constant clutter in the mind with endless unproductive thoughts. Also because most of us are at home and many of them have lost their jobs or are facing financial crises. In such a situation, there are higher chances that people overthink or go back to past memories that have haunted them since forever.

More overthinking will create problems that don’t even exist.

To end this, there are some easy and simple solutions.

  1. Write down things that are bothering you.

Writing down things that have always hampered your mind or something that you are facing might sound like a strange idea but that actually helps. Pouring down your stress through writing can help you have a third point of view to things and situations. This also helps you to lighten the burden you’ve been carrying on your heart and mind.

  1. Live in the present and stop bouncing back in the past

The biggest mistake we do is to bounce on our mistakes again and again or keep pondering on instances that have added into a bad memory now and thinking about them only brings us disgust.

When we live in the present, the past cannot haunt us or bother us from living our fullest version. Otherwise we’ll keep bouncing on our past and would restrict ourselves from moving on.

  1. Do things you enjoy the most

When you are in stress or anxiety and when thousand toxic thoughts have been capturing your mind, the thing that always works is to keep your mind busy doing things that you love doing. Hobbies have the power to bring an instant boost of happiness to your consciousness just because of the fact that your mind has always loved doing that. Overthinking will indirectly stop cribbing your mind.

  1. Do yoga and meditation

None can deny the importance of yoga and meditation and the strength it has to change you entirely. Yoga not only brings you physical good health but also grooms your mental health and calms your stressed nerves. Meditation on the other hand has the capacity to explore yourself and have better control over yourself and your thoughts.

Continuously practising yoga and meditation helps you own better psychological health and live a destressed life.

  1. Move out and get fresh oxygen

Spending your time mostly in the closed walls can trigger your subconscious mind and force you to overthink and sink in your own thoughts. It is very important for both physical and mental health to keep going out and inhale fresh oxygen to inhabit positive thoughts and a healthy mind that has no air for negativity or unproductive thoughts.

  1. Read good books

Reading books have always invited more wisdom, knowledge and understanding of thoughts, facts and ideas. It grooms the way your mind and consciousness works. So it is very important for each and every one of us, regardless of what professional roles we play, to keep reading some good books on life, mental health, motivation and general psychological boosters. Once you know you have a lot to feed your mind, you’ll eventually stop overthinking.

  1. Stay connected

Stay connected with people that matter to you or are close to you. Talking to your friends and family and meeting them quite often relieves your mind and brings a dose of happiness and peace to your mind that it forgets to think about things that hamper you. Even if that’s still bothering you, you can always share it with your people and realize that your problem is solved and you got stronger to deal with it.

How your mind should work once you realize you are overthinking.

PHASE 1- Understand the reason

PHASE 2- Analyze if it is worth it

PHASE 3- Start working towards it
