How to have a happy marriage?

Marriage is not a contract, it’s a bond. A bond of two souls who want to share their half with someone else.

Are you worried to take that big step?

Or are you unhappy in your marriage?

I’ve talked to many people who say that they feel their partners aren’t happy in this relationship. They feel their partners are betraying them, or in some cases, the partner is loud and abusive which makes it even worse.

We feel that the other person should be centred around us and should have a life we want them to live. This is the major reason that there are high rates of divorce and unhappy marriages.

Is it so difficult to maintain a happy partnership?

If the person is toxic then there is no use of putting efforts as all the efforts would go in vain and invite more negativity into your life. But if you feel that the person you’ve married is worth the effort but somehow it’s not going good, trying including all these simple things into your relationship.

Trust their actions

Trust is the building block of any relationship. When it is a relationship of love between two partners, trust plays a major role in strengthening the bond. It is in fact more important than love. Also if your partner realizes that you aren’t trusting them, it creates discomfort and tension in the bond. Everything you do and everyone they talk to will make you sceptical.

Trust your partner and communicate this to them.

Stay loyal and practice honesty

Trust is nothing if one of you isn’t loyal to the other. You can trust them if they are trustworthy with their actions and with all their heart and vice versa. To avoid any trust issues, it is always advised to tell your partner the truth. If you had someone in the past, tell them in advance, before marriage. If somebody approaches you now, tell them before they doubt your intentions. Sometimes people avoid telling things to their partners, not because they are disloyal but maybe because they want to avoid any tension in the relationship. But that’s not how it goes.

Be honest with your partner and stay loyal in every condition. It is not a choice, it is your responsibility.

Give them space

We often say that our partner is everything. The world starts with them and ends with them. We are one. But when we talk practically, it isn’t true. Your love life would mean the world to you but there are other things important in your life, that are different from their priorities and choices in life. Practising hobbies, music, meditation, exercise, work and several other things needs to be done on an individual level and might not always need the physical presence of your partner. If you constantly keep disturbing them in their ‘me time’, they’ll get irritated or maybe get angry at you. Everyone deserves a personal space to breathe and introspect into their life.

Never belittle your partner

You meet your friends, family, colleagues with your partner and you disrespect them intentionally or unintentionally can be your biggest mistake ever. It shows them clearly that you don’t value them and don’t respect them at all. This can hamper your love life and bond really badly.

Also, if there is a skill or fact that your partner is not known to, better bring it into their knowledge or help them learn instead of transmitting a superiority complex to them so that they feel inferior.

Take care and give them time

Give enough time to your partner and maintain a work-life balance so that your partner doesn’t feel ignored. Less communication can bring a lot of assumptions that kill the essence of a relationship leaving some unanswered questions.

Not only giving them time but also proving to them that you care about their needs, wants, work, habits and health will strengthen your bond like anything. Love without care has no life.

We’ve made marriage and relationships like a project when all they need is some love and efforts to make it work. You will find yourself incomplete without them. And that is the power of love in our lives. Bonds are created, cherished and should be taken care of.

If something gets broken, you need to fix it and not throw it away.

Embrace love!
